Seven PhD projects and five mapping projects aim to contribute to the development of the maritime industry, nationally as well as internationally, on the basis of a close dialogue with the maritime business community.

Five of the PhD projects commenced already. Viktor Avlonitis, Jonatan Echebarria Fernández, Agnieszka Nowinska, Maitane Elorriaga and Stefan Kirkegaard Sløk-Madsen started their research career at CBS on 1st September 2014, focusing their PhD projects on generic research questions, but with an application to various maritime problem areas.
More specifically, the new PhD cohort will be looking into the areas of:
•    Entrepreneurship in Tanker Shipping
•    Legal Management of Financial Risks in Volatile Shipping Markets
•    Business Model Innovation in Intermediary Shipping Firms
•    Developing Commercial Capability in Offshore Shipping and Supply
•    Innovation and Competitiveness of the Maritime Equipment Industry

The already ongoing mapping projects, that will have their results ready by March 2015, involve permanent research staff, research assistants and student assistants from several departments. The purposes of the projects are partly to support the PhD projects with data and knowledge about the maritime industry and partly to contribute teaching material to the educational activities in CBS' maritime programs and courses.
The five mapping projects are:
•    The Commercial Opportunities and Limitations of Arctic Shipping
•    A Business History of Finance, Ownership and Strategy in Product Tanker Shipping
•    An Organizational Economics Analysis of Value Creation in Global Maritime Transport Chains
•    An Industrial Organization Analysis of the Offshore Industry
•    International Regulation and Competitiveness
