Department of Economics receives Otto Mønsted Visiting Professorship Grant

Department of Economics at CBS has been awarded an Otto Mønsted Visiting Professorship grant of 210,000 DKK. The funding will allow Associate Professor Battista Severgnini to invite Professor Marcella Alsan, Harvard University, for a research stay at the Department during the Spring-Summer 2020 semester. The visit of Professor Alsan will help to raise the profile of CBS in the field of economic growth. Professor Alsan and Associate Professor Severgnini will work on two different projects: the first one is based on Irish historical administrative data, while the second one will study the relationship between health and economic growth in Denmark. Furthermore, Professor Alsan will participate at teaching activities at the program of Applied Economics and Finance at CBS.

Professor Marcella Alsan is Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. She has obtained medical degrees at Harvard and Loyola University and has a PhD in economics at Harvard University. She also trained at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Hiatt Global Health Equity Residency Fellowship – then combined the PhD with an Infectious Disease Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Prior to returning to Harvard, she was Associate Professor of Medicine at the Stanford School of Medicine and a Core Faculty Member at the Center for Health Policy/Primary Care and Outcomes Research in California, USA. She received the 2019 Arrow Award from the International Health Economics Association (IHEA) for research that shows that the health of African-American men were adversely impacted by the Tuskegee syphilis study of the early 20th century.
