A delegation from the Department of Economics at CBS has visited China in May 2015 to represent Denmark on the Guiyang International Big Data Expo 2015, to meet Government Officials and to foster links with Higher Education institutions in China. The visit followed an invitation by the Chinese government.

Denmark and Sweden have been invited guest countries on Big Data Expo 2015. Research from the Department of Economics at CBS had been selected for presentation at the Denmark stand along with pioneering technology that has been developed by the Danish industry. At the opening of the conference, the CBS delegation, led by Shihan Du, PhD student at the Department of Economics has been greeted by Ma Kai, the Vice-premier of the People’s Republic of China. During the conference Shihan Du had a very busy time to present her work with her collaborator Hao Su from the University of York. Ralf Wilke, Professor of Applied Econometrics at the CBS Department of Economics, has given an invited presentation at the Europe-China Industry summit where industry leaders and government representatives from various countries had a forum to discuss the newest developments around big data. His presentation covered examples for the availability and use of linked administrative data for research and policy consultancy in Europe. He also acted as a panel discussant with several CEOs from European firms, a leading industry representative from Germany and a diplomat from Estonia.

The CBS delegation then had an appointment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing, which assured its support for further strengthening the research and higher education links between Denmark and China before it visited a couple of higher education institutions to discuss how the ties between institutions can be improved.
