PhD defence: Lena Lindbjerg Sperling

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Lena Lindbjerg Sperling has submitted her thesis entitled: Economic and Cultural Development - Empirical Studies of Micro-level Data

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 - 14:00 to 16:00

In this PhD dissertation I explore the underlying developments that occur due to large scale events. The thesis consists of three separate articles, each exploring distinct matters but using similar methodological frameworks and econometric techniques. The first chapter explores how labor income is affected by a large natural disaster with significant destruction of infrastructure and agricultural production. The second chapter examines how a policy change affects religious behavior and beliefs using the differential take-up of the faith-based initiatives across US states. In the last chapter we describe the development in inequality in cultural values across the globe.
