Located at the Department of Business Humanities and Law (BHL), we explore an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of business and the humanities, including such areas as ethics, philosophy, history, anthropology, and culture studies. We emphasize the application of humanistic perspectives, critical thinking and ethical considerations to the study and practice of business.

The Business Humanities, as we understand them, aim to enrich business practice and education by examining the broader social, cultural, historical, and ethical implications of business decisions, fostering a more holistic understanding of organizations and their impact on individuals and society.

Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship, when viewed through the lens of the Business Humanities, encompasses a multidimensional understanding of the entrepreneurial process. It acknowledges that entrepreneurship is not solely about profit generation or market opportunities but also involves social, cultural, and ethical considerations. Business Humanities infuse entrepreneurship with insights from disciplines such as philosophy, history and anthropology, exploring the human aspect of business, the impact of ventures on society and ethical business dilemmas. By embracing the principles of Business Humanities, entrepreneurs gain a more comprehensive perspective that values social responsibility, cultural sensitivity, and ethical decision-making, resulting in ventures that are not only financially successful but also contribute positively to communities and society.
Ethics
Ethics play a central role in the Business Humanities by bringing a moral and humanistic perspective to business practices. Such a viewpoint encourages a critical examination of the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of business decisions and actions. By incorporating ethical principles and frameworks from disciplines such as philosophy, history and cultural studies, the study of ethics promotes responsible and values-driven behavior in entrepreneurship and business management. It encourages business professionals to consider the broader implications of their actions, prioritize stakeholder well-being, and strive for long-term sustainability. Humanistic approaches to ethics foster a more holistic and human-centered perspective, in which ethical considerations and social impact are regarded as essential components of success.
Leadership
We take a humanistic and values-based approach to leadership that goes beyond traditional notions of authority and management. Seen from a Business Humanities perspective, effective leadership involves more than just technical skills and organizational acumen—it requires an understanding of human behavior, cultural contexts, and ethical considerations. By incorporating insights from disciplines such as philosophy, anthropology and history, our Business Humanities perspective allows us to explore the complexities of leadership, emphasizing empathy, self-reflection, ethical decision-making, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. Our approach encourages leaders to cultivate emotional intelligence, moral reasoning, and a deep understanding of diverse perspectives. It underscores the importance of the well-being of individuals, inclusive and diverse work environments, and organizational goals with broader societal values. By integrating principles from the Business Humanities, business leaders can create more meaningful and purpose-driven organizations that engage and empower employees, foster collaboration, and contribute to society as a whole.
