Network on Social Innovation and Civic Engagement (n-SICE)

Abstract:

The purpose of the network on Social Innovation and Civil Engagement (n-SICE) is to explore case studies of civic engagement at different levels – across national and local levels and across the voluntary sector. Due to the disconnected research on social engagement in this context, academically, the n-SICE aims to build theoretical and empirical bridges between governance studies, Corporate Social Responsibility and media studies, asking:1. How can we sustain the mobilisation of civil society beyond the ephemeral involvement of voting, joining a demonstration, submitting an online petition or a one-off donation?2. How can we ensure that social innovation has a sound civic grounding?3. What role do media play in civic engagement and how can online media help reconfigure these challenges?
