The Future of digital payments

Abstract:

Subsequently, the objective of this industrial PhD research is to investigate the potential futures of payment systems at the backdrop of blockchain technology. This overarching objective will be achieved by(1) Exploring potential paths in which blockchain technology may disrupt the prevailing payment systems industry. (2) Re-conceptualizing the future role of money exchange and value store mechanisms in order to envision new services, new business models, and new payment practices at the backdrop of the emerging blockchain technology. (3) Designing and implementing prototypes of a value-adding leading-edge payment system based on the acquired findings of the capabilities afforded by blockchain technology (e.g., a micro payment system, or smart programmable money).
