Successful collaboration between companies and universities - measures, effects, network embeddedness and complementarity

Abstract:

This project will aim at unpacking the mechanisms through which academic science is absorbed and transformed inside companies; in order to ultimately understand the impact of collaboration with industry for different measure of firm performance. In particular the main research question are:1.How university industry collaboration influence high skill labour mobility 2.What is the effect of different forms of collaboration with universities on firms’ performance and production of innovative outputs? 3.What are the complementarity vs. substitution effects derived from multiple forms of linkages between universities and industry?4. Network level - Do the networks identified exhibit topological characteristics of Small World Networks?5. Organization Level – What is the effect of being differently embedded in the network on knowledge stock and composition? What are the specific roles of firms and universities in the U-I collaboration networks?
