Speech and Gaze in Translation (Speech and Gaze in Translation)

Abstract:

The network ”Speech and Gaze in Translation” seeks to generate and exchange knowledge about advanced translation technologies and post-editing practice of machine translated texts. It builds upon the 2012 activities of the International Network Programme “Post-editing Expertise” funded by the Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation, extending the group by involving an additional speech-to-speech translation expert from USA. The proposed network “Speech and Gaze in Translation” focuses on advance multi-modal technologies, in particular speech and gaze data, by investigating technological and human factors as well as business needs and the current work practice of translators.Four planned workshops (to be held in Denmark, India, Japan, and USA) will be organised to discuss technological, ergonomic, and business aspects of advanced translation platforms and their role in the society. The network and the workshops will give the possibility to two PhD students at the Institute for Business Communication at CBS to extend their experience in their fields of research at the partner institutes. It will enable advanced researchers to explore new contacts and to extend their professional network to elaborate a cross-disciplinary research agenda for multi-modal research plans for international collaboration with the goal to prepare collaboration proposals and long-term joint scientific research projects from national and international funding agencies.
