Human-machine interaction in translation (Human-machine interaction in translation)


Abstract:

The network aims to promote Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by analysing, modelling and ameliorating human-machine interaction. ICT systems will be more readily accepted if the computer system is better informed about the limits and potentials of the human user, so as to intelligently react and adapt to her needs. Translation is a highly complext activity, and translation process research investigates, analyses and models the cognitive processes during human translation. The findings of this research must be fed back into the computer system and determine future design strategies of interactive machine translation systems.A better understanding of the human translator when using interactive translation aids will not only strengthen the scientific basis for future implementation of collaborative ICT systems, but also deepen our understanding of human mind in general. The systematic investigation of translation processes and their physical traces (such as keystrokes and gaze movements) leads to a deeper formalised comprehension of how humans and computer systems may complement each other and provide the basis for more grounded architectures of user interfaces and man-machine interaction.
