CBS wants to strengthen Danish competitiveness

Danish growth must be promoted! CBS is now gathering experts in competitiveness on a new platform. The purpose of the platform is to underpin new and existing CBS projects with a view to strengthen Danish companies

Denmark has experienced more difficulties pulling through the crisis than most OECD countries. Danish companies have had a hard time adjusting to the new global terms of competition and are not as competitive as they used to be. Torben Pedersen, Professor at the Department of Strategic Management and Globalization, is one of the two directors of the platform who is going to find a solution:

- What will happen when Danish jobs are shipped abroad? We have a problem related to competitiveness in Denmark. Danish companies are doing relatively worse than companies in other countries. The platform is focused on all sizes and types of companies. The large companies are making a lot of progress themselves, while small and medium-sized companies need more attention. The platform is strictly focused on competitiveness, but has a broad starting point, says Torben Pedersen.

Platform gathers competences

The official name of the platform is the ”CBS Competitiveness Platform”. It works with research, teaching and knowledge sharing across fields of expertise and departments. The activities take place in collaboration with companies such as the Danish skylight and window manufacturer Velux, who also will contribute to the launch of the platform at CBS on 15 March. In the long term, the companies will also benefit from the platform's increased focus on competition in CBS' teaching activities.

- The aim is to gather competences, share knowledge and start a debate on how competition is improved. The platform is able to support individual initiatives financially, but the platform does not appoint people per se. It gathers and supports existing initiatives, says Torben Pedersen.

Denmark on the global market

Experience and knowledge gathered by the platform will benefit Danish companies in numerous ways. For example they will be case objects, and labs for knowledge sharing and development will be created - also with respect to global challenges.

- It is about the Danish corporate sector's ability to compete on the global market. CBS' new platform is an answer to the public debate. I am looking forward to interacting with company executives about how we apply new knowledge about the strengthening of our competitiveness. All types of companies can be included. Two of Denmark's leading CEOs from Carlsberg and Velux will be present at the launch. This sets a high standard for our level of ambition, says Torben Pedersen.
