Otto Mønsted Visiting Professor - Myles Shaver (Otto Mønsted Gæsteprofessorat, Myles Shaver)

Abstract:

It is envisaged that Professor Shaver, being a world class researcher, will work especially on the PhD program at CBS. In particular, we expect him to provide two workshops open to all CBS PhD students and depending on demand also to selected external students. One workshop will focus on the content of his work in strategic and international management, around location choiceand competition. Professor Shaver has published a range of articles on this theme in journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Science, and Journal of Management. All of these are journals at the very highest level in our field (4* in the Association of Business School / Academic Journal Guide list; Financial Times-45 and University of Dallas Texas rankings). The second workshop will focus on research methods. Professor Shaver has particularly made innovative contributions to how scholars in the field of strategic and international management deal with issues like selection bias and endogeneity, which are thorny problems for those who want to study performance outcomes. Professor Shaver was among the very first people to concern himself with these issues in our field. For PhD students using quantitative methods who want to make contributions in leading journals in strategic and international management in-depth insights into how to deal with these issues are now absolutely essential.
