New profiles for MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems

If you are studying Business Administration and Computer Science or Information Management at undergraduate level, you can choose between two new specialisations in 2009: IT Management and Business Economics (IMBE), which is taught in Danish (English from 2012) and Information Management, which is taught in English. The graduates will have the same title: MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems. At the same time, BSc in Business Administration and Computer Science changes its name to BSc in Business Administration and Information Systems.

In principle, the IT Management and Business Economics specialisation is targeted at undergraduate students of Business Administration and Computer Science, whereas undergraduate students of Information Management typically choose the Information Management profile. The new MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems makes it possible to choose another specialisation than the one that your bachelor degree normally points at.

-The idea of MSc in Business Administration and Information Systems is to offer special courses that focus on the unique identity that the students obtain on their profile as well as to offer courses broad enough to target both profiles, thereby creating synergy between the candidates, says Dorte Madsen, Programme Director.

Bridge builders between business, IT and information

The opportunity of creating synergy between the profiles is also the reason why there are three mandatory courses for all MSc students of Business Administration and Information Systems during the first semester. The candidates will learn how to apply their interdisciplinary competences to build a bridge between different functions and skills in an organisation that enables them to solve problems that involve more than one discipline.

The candidates will then specialise in one of the two core areas. The purpose of the IMBE profile is to train candidates to analyse and solve complex problems in connection with design, development, acquisition and implementation of information technology in organisations. The Information Management profile focuses on information and the role played by information and information management in the value creation and strategic processes of organisations.

Business understanding and management competences are common features of MSc’s in Business Administration and Information Systems, and it really separates them from other IT graduates today.
