Based on the headline “Do You Have What It Takes to Become a Shipbroker”, Director and Head of Container Sale & Purchase, Kasper Holm-Hemmingsen from Maersk Broker, began his presentation with an overall introduction to the shipping industry and shipbroking.

Although Kasper is one of the youngest directors in Maersk Broker, his knowledge about the business of shipbrokering is based on more than 10 years of field experience. Furthermore, Kasper presented the ongoing development of the container segment whilst pointing at how this sets out distinctive requirements for those who aspire to pursue a career as shipbroker.

For President of Shipping Union CBS, Kevin Chen, student and study board member at the new BSc International Shipping and Trade, the fact that over 50 students and faculty attended the union’s first business related event proves that shipping students at CBS are eager to hear and learn about “real life” in the shipping sector.

- While we try to be a facilitator of both a social and professional network between students and the industry, our other main goal is also to provide the maritime students at CBS a “real life” input about the shipping industry, which we approach daily from the theoretical point of view. Based on the participation and the positive student feedback at the event, we are very much looking forward to hosting similar guest lectures with other key industry people, as our fellow students seem to demand it, says Kevin Chen.

Member of study board for the BSc in International Shipping and Trade, and CBS Maritime Co-director, Carsten Ørts Hansen, salutes the efforts by the CBS´ shipping students to not only service their members by arranging events, but at the same time also creating awareness of the maritime educational activities taking place at CBS today:

- CBS has come a long way in a short time, when it comes to developing our maritime educations. Since the creation of CBS Maritime in 2013, CBS is already now able to present educational opportunities on every level of academia, from bachelor to master of science and MBA. Events such as the one organized by Shipping Union CBS, not only gives students insights into the shipping industry – it also helps create awareness about CBS´ vast provision of shipping educations on a high academic level and the great enthusiasm of our shipping students, says CBS Maritime Co-director, Carsten Ørts Hansen.

Shipping Union CBS is a student organization for BSc in International Shipping and Trade students as well as graduate students who have opted for maritime electives.
