Thomas Kristiansen began by explaining how the shipping industry operates at different levels. He then took a closer look at the current 2015 situation, where the business has experienced what he calls “the perfect storm”. He elaborated by showing how the tanker industry is at an all-time high, whilst dry bulk is struggling. Many big companies are probably facing a situation where they do not actually know how to turn around their negative earnings, and the capital fund’s interest in the sector has grown dramatic. Parallel to this, a “hub-battle” is taking place in Europe, where both Denmark and Norway are challenging the Netherlands. All these factors are fundamentally changing the dynamics of the industry. The future of shipping will be very interesting to follow, was the end-point of Thomas´ presentation.

The event was arranged by CBS Shipping and sponsored by CBS Maritime. Event Manager in CBS Shipping, Ole Kristian Waitz, says that with events like the one with Shippingwatch students get insights into the shipping industry, which are not usually presented at lectures and academic presentations.

CBS Maritime Co-director, Carsten Ørts Hansen, says that CBS Maritime recognizes the efforts of CBS Shipping with events such as the one with Shippingwatch:
- Academic and social events, with a focus on the maritime sector, shows a vibrant and dynamic student environment amongst CBS´ students interested in shipping. To the best of our ability, we try to support the maritime student milieu at CBS and we look forward to hearing more about the coming semester and the future activities, says CBS Maritime, Co-director, Carsten Ørts Hansen.
