Academy of Management 2025: New thinking, new encounters

This month, we had the pleasure of joining #AoM2025, which brought together researchers from around the world for days filled with inspiration, exchange of insights, and new ideas for further exploration. The Academy of Management remains a unique community where intellectual thought leadership is paired with human connection – a place where knowledge, curiosity, and dialogue thrive.

With Copenhagen as the host city, this year’s gathering also allowed us to add an extra local dimension to the conversations. Two off-site activities provided memorable settings for new ways of thinking.

At Designmuseum Danmark, participants explored alternative approaches to envisioning the future, enriched by elements of Danish culture, design, and the much-celebrated spirit of ‘hygge’. These surroundings created a fertile atmosphere for reimagining leadership and organizational futures.

Meanwhile, discussions on Collective Leadership were extended in a different register at Comic Garden, where Professor Laura Empson hosted a gathering with music and good humor. Thanks to Susanne Boch Waldorff and Ursula Plesner, the evening also offered a playful reminder of the quirks of conference life – and the value of sharing research not only in formal but also in social spaces.

These moments highlighted that impactful knowledge exchange happens both inside and outside traditional sessions. By engaging with cultural contexts and informal encounters, participants were able to deepen conversations and spark fresh insights.

We are grateful to all who helped create this year’s AoM magic. A special thank you to CBS President Peter Møllgaard for joining us, and to Professor Silviya Svejenova for her invaluable support while also chairing the Academy’s Organization & Management Theory Division.

It was an inspiring and energizing week, reminding us once again that at its heart, AoM is about people coming together to make the world a better place through research, leadership, and dialogue.
