Sustainability Seminar - Big Data and Smart Technologies

Wednesday, February 20, 2019 - 15:00 to 17:00

One new buzzword is Big Data – But how do we define this? Technology seems mandatory for innovation, disruption, and Smarter cities – But is this true? Per Østergaard Jacobsen (External lecturer, Dep. of Marketing) will talk about the influence of people’s attitude in adopting new technologies. He argues that the mindset as citizen, managers or politician really sets the scene for moving forward with digitalization. With respect to Big Data, Per will debate if it is equal to the planned economy and thereby the direct way to a fully sustainable world.

Moreover, Lara Anne Hale (Postdoc, Dep. of Management, Society and Communication) will present smart technologies on a building level. She will introduce how these technologies enable the extension of traditional building organizations into digital building services, allowing a new level of understanding and servicing of buildings in use, but also issues of responsibility and security that accompany service. Lara will elaborate on the effects on end-users’ sustainability understanding as well as on organizational approaches to sustainability via new connectivity with users.
