Empirically Informed Regulation: Lessons from the White House

 

Cass Sunstein

Cass Sunstein received Harvard’s highest honor for a faculty member,Harvard University Professor, in March 2013 for wide-ranging impact beyond field. His work has earned more academic citations than any other American law professor. He is co-author of the bestseller “Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness” (2008) and recently published the book“Simpler: The Future of Government”.  Sunstein argues for "nudges," in the form of low-cost, choice-preserving approaches, and also for careful analysis of the costs and benefits of regulations. Professor Sunstein was administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs during President Barack Obama’s first term in office.

Pia Olsen Dyhr

Pia Olsen Dyhr is Danish Minister for Trade and Investment. She is also currently acting Minister for the Environment. Pia Olsen Dyhr became member of the Danish Parliament for The Socialist People’s Party in 2007. Before joining Parliament, she worked with policy, international relations, trade, and environmental issues at the non-governmental organizations CARE Denmark and the Danish Society for the Conservation of Nature. She holds a MA in Political Science from University of Copenhagen.

Karin Klitgaard

Karin Klitgaard is Director of Environmental Policy at the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), which represents more than 10,000 companies in Denmark within the manufacturing, trade and service industries. Ms. Klitgaard’s specialties lie within environmental strategy, eco-innovation, European and Danish environmental policy, and sustainable development. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Roskilde University and has previously held senior management positions at the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Ministry of Environment.
