AI has been introduced in organizations to support different business activities, including automation of business processes, gaining insights through data analytics, and engagement with customers and employees. Recent research on AI interactions with humans in organizations has introduced two generic modes: automation and augmentation. In automation, AI typically takes over a task previously performed by humans, while in augmentation humans collaborate closely with AI to perform a task. The introduction of AI requires businesses to make strategic decisions about redesigning specific organizational tasks and activities. Focusing on economic efficiency suggests automating to the highest possible degree, whereas focusing on value creation suggests augmenting AI capabilities with human expertise, intuition and creativity.
The panelists will present their different perspectives on the introduction of AI in organizational decision-making, and in particular the interactions of AI and humans. After a short introduction of the different perspectives and selective presentation of some practical examples, they will debate on issues such as whether AI can eliminate the flaws of human judgement, or whether AI can replace human judgment to reduce noise in organizational decision-making.
