About entrepreneur, Cofounder and CEO Erdem Ovacik

Erdem Ovacik is an entrepreneurial spirit, who seeks social change. He is passionate about changing the way society makes collective decisions. He believes the way most governments work today does not match our collective capacity for problem solving and preference aggregation. He believes that we need to use disruptive technology to bridge the decision-making divide between the powerful few and the majority.

Erdem Ovacik holds a Master’s degree from University of California, Berkeley. Erdem’s professional journey started at McKinsey and took him through three startups in the past seven years, two of which he founded. He has worked on crowd-sourcing and crowd-funding platforms, citizen engagement initiatives, international development projects, social impact bonds and business models involving sharing economy.

Today, Erdem is Cofounder and CEO of a startup named the Donkey Republic. The company has developed a bicycle-sharing system and has expanded globally after validating an economically viable business model without public subsidies. Using an AirBnb-like model, bike owners earn money by managing their bikes on the Donkey platform. The company aims to turn the bicycle into the hero of public transportation and a catalyst for greener, more livable and less traffic-congested cities. With an EUR 1,5 million investment from The Danish Growth Fund, Donkey Republic is setting up to disrupt urban transport around the world.
