Tourism During and after COVID-19: An Expert-informed Agenda for Future Research

The pandemic is reaching a more mature, yet still threatening, stage and the time is ripe to look forward and identify the topics and trend which will shape future tourism research and practice.

Researcher Florian Kock, along with colleagues George Assaf, and Mike Tsionas surveyed industry and academia experts about three questions:

  1. What topics are needed in the future to address the impact of covid-19?
  2. What existing research areas/topics will become more relevant?
  3. What changes are recommended for data collection? And which additional variables may be required by future studies to provide more accuracy and robustness to their findings?

With 19 established informants, the consensus was that six focal research pillars, should be addressed in the global tourism research agenda. These were: consumer behaviour, demand and performance modeling, forecasting, destination and facility management, information technology, and quality of life.

Under these six research pillars, a plethora of sub-research topics and strategies for data collection begin to emerge To read more on these, please read the full letter to the editor (published in the Journal of Travel Research), by following this link: https://research.cbs.dk/en/publications/tourism-during-and-after-covid-19-an-expert-informed-agenda-for-f
