Strategic Design—Shaping Strategy and Culture

31/10/2017

Companies seek new ways of competing in the future. On this path, design-driven thinking is becoming an essential approach for innovating strategies and culture, with new ‘Chief Design Officer’ positions reflecting this movement among global C-Suites.

Associate Professor Ingo Karpen is a leading international expert in design thinking and co-editor of the practitioner book Strategic Design (www.strategicdesignbook.com), which they define as the use of design principles and practices to guide strategy development and implementation toward innovative outcomes that benefit people and organisations alike.

Ingo recently led an interactive workshop at Maersk here in Copenhagen to illustrate the power of strategic design. Invited by Maersk’s Business Change Authority unit, the workshop brought key design principles to life. The event also included a focus on building design capacity through culture development by way of design maturity analyses and strategies.

The highly successful workshop included industry delegates and CBS alumni, while demonstrating the relevance of this approach to Danish companies.
