Encounters with China

CBS has been hosting a study trip by Chinese students following the MSc Public Management and Social Development (PMSD) programme at the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research, a collaboration between Danish universities and the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences which is based just outside Beijing. EGB staff have been, along with colleagues in other departments, at the forefront in organizing the visit.
The students have been getting to know Denmark and finding out about its economy and society. They have been meeting representatives from firms and the trades unions and looking at Denmark’s place within the European Union. The tour has also included a two-day stay on the island of Samsø where there has been a particular focus on local solutions to sustainability challenges. At the same time the students are taking the opportunity to meet and work with their supervisors at different Danish universities who will be guiding them through the process of writing an MSc thesis.
PMSD offers a two-year study programme in China that includes, wherever possible, trips and visits so that European students can learn firsthand about contemporary China and Chinese students can gain an insight into Danish life. Next month, a different group of PMSD students will be visiting the Ningxia region in north-central China.
Eddie Ashbee of EGB, who heads up the Danish side of the programme, said: “we live in very challenging times and barriers seem to be going up. It is therefore more important than ever to find out for ourselves what is happening in other parts of the world”.
