Lara Anne Hale

Lara Anne Hale, former PhD student at MSC, has received a postdoc scholarship from Innovationsfonden in relation to the special grant call for research related to Smart Buildings and Cities, supported also by Realdania.

The project is entitled “Smart Buildings & Cities Business Model Innovation” and seeks to develop an understanding of the business model innovation process for building industry actors undergoing digitisation in the Internet of Things (IoT). Specifically, the project will research and contribute to VELUX’s process of business model adaptation during their expansion into healthy indoor climate experiences mediated by building management platforms such as Apple HomeKit or NetAtmo. These transitions present new challenges to established organisations, including: how to understand and respond to new customer expectations, or how to collaborate with other organisations offering services on the same platforms.

The project also aims to set up an “Active Living Lab” wherein VELUX can more openly and in real time learn how people experience technology-driven healthy indoor environments in a smart building. Further, the industrial postdoc is part of the Science Forum at BLOXHUB, the new centre for building industry collaboration and innovation in Copenhagen and will involve developing this community.

Lara's institutional supervisor is Andreas Rasche, and her company supervisor is Lone Feifer (of VELUX).
