New Trends in Anti-Corruption
On 18 September 2015 the CBS Public-Private Platform and the Law Enforcement and Armed Forces Cluster (LEAF), in cooperation with Confederation of Danish Industries and Transparency International Denmark, held a one-day conference exploring the recent trends in the global fight against corruption. The conference, which followed up on a similar conference taking place at CBS in 2013, gathered 95 representatives from the Danish business community, NGOs and the government to discuss the risk of corruption on global markets and how it can be handled, with a particular focus on the challenges facing Danish businesses.

The conference was structured in two parts. During the morning session in plenum Dr. Dieter Zinnbauer, Senior Programme Manager For Emerging Policy Issues and Innovation at Transparency International Berlin, and Director Professional Services at Global Advice Network, Christian Skak Olufsen, provided the participants with insights into the new forms of transparency and risk management shaping the global fight against corruption, including the role of law enforcement, traditional and new media technologies and risk assessment tools. The afternoon was organized in two workshops, each of which based on the presentations by company representatives. The presentations focused on the opportunities and challenges relating to current trends in anti-corruption, such as the proliferation of international and national legislation, the recent UK Bribery Act, the heightened focus on compliance, including due diligence and whistle-blowing, the challenges of organizing proper risk assessment and management systems in companies, as well as cultural differences as to the understanding of what counts as corruption and how it might be fought. The workshops were followed by a concluding panel on the prospects of collective action in the field of anti-corruption in Denmark, with interventions by Knut Godtfredsen, Chairman of Transparency International Denmark, Ken Blæsbjerg Graversen, Risk & Compliance Officer, Danfoss A/S, and Susanne Hyldelund, Director of Centre for the Trade Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark.
The conference also counted on the participation of academics from CBS and other universities, and as such, it opened up for exciting new areas to research at the interface between practitioners and researchers.
