CBS Maritime Strengthens its Organization

Leonardo Santiago has joined the Maritime Business in Society Platform at Copenhagen Business School as its new academic co-director. He takes over the position from Carsten Ørts Hansen, who is now Head of Department for Operations Management

CBS Maritime is extremely pleased to welcome Leonardo Santiago into the platform Leadership team. Leonardo is an associate professor with the Department of Operations Management at CBS and holds a Ph.D. from Boston University. His research interests include: (i) decision support to finance and the development of alternative energies, (ii) dynamic management of innovation and technology development; and (iii) risk management and meta-modeling.

As Co-director of CBS Maritime he will foster platform development efforts and liaise between CBS departments and between CBS and the maritime industry to communicate and coordinate joint activities.

Director Henrik Sornn-Friese explains the benefit to CBS Maritime: “I believe Leonardo Santiago not only will be an asset for fostering new research within the maritime sector, but that he will also function as an important link between CBS Maritime and the Department of Operations Management, which from the start has been a keystone in the research and teaching activities of CBS Maritime”.

In the past 15 years, Leonardo’s research and teaching has focused on decision support approaches to improving the performance of firms. He has extensive research experience and in supervising students in projects developed together with companies. He has, among other industries, been working with automotive, energy, and cosmetics.  

An intrinsic feature of Leonardo’s work is the interdisciplinary approach to practical problems, aiming to foster the productivity and efficiency of organizations. The projects he has conducted together with companies include assessment and valuation of biofuel production, appraisal of the development of alternative energies, assessment of the development of gas to liquid technologies, portfolio management and project selection of R&D initiatives, and the production startup of a new engine line.
