2 FRIC Practitioner Seminars coming up

We have 2 upcoming FRIC Practitioner Seminars this semester: the first one is next week October 27, 2015 and the second on November 25, 2015.

FRIC will be hosting 2 seminars this semester in the FRIC Practitioner Seminar Series:

David John Laredo, Global Liquidity Management, Danske Bank will discuss: The role of the repo product in finance
Abstract: Like many other financial markets the repo product has been heavily impacted by the changes in the financial world post 2008.  As at June 2015 the European Repo market had a baseline market size of EUR 5,612 billion which is down from its peak size of EUR 6,979 billion in June 2010. This seminar will focus on the basics of repo and how this market functions in an attempt to both explain two main points - the role of the repo product in the financial world and the reasons behind this decline in size.

About FRIC Practitioner Seminars Series

FRIC Practitioner Seminars feature practitioners from financial institutions, central banks, regulatory authorities, asset management firms and other central players in the finance industry. Occasionally, the seminar also features academics speaking on current issues faced by the industry. The purpose of the seminars is to help finance researchers understand the institutional setting of financial markets, and to keep up with financial innovation and changes in the regulatory environment. Arguably, it was the failure to understand the plumbing of the financial system rather than a lack of theoretical tools that prevented most academics from seeing the financial crisis coming. The Practitioner Seminars series aims to fill this gap.

Ultimately, the FRIC Practitioner Seminars should stimulate new research into the role of financial frictions that will help answering concrete and pressing questions in financial markets.
