Gary Gereffi as Otto Mønsted Visiting Professor at MSC/CBDS

Gary Gereffi, Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Duke University, is visiting the Centre for Business and Development Studies (CBDS) at MSC until the end of June as Otto Mønsted Visiting Professor.

 

During his stay at CBDS, Gary Gereffi participates in a number of centre activities. Thus he featured in the webinar series on sustainable development, Big Questions Little Time, with a talk on 25 May, in which he posed the question “Are global value chains really resilient? Lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine”.

 

On 9 June, Gary Gereffi co-chairs a Roundtable event - Can African Countries leapfrog to a Green Industrial Economy?, together with Professor Lindsay Whitfield, co-director of CBDS.

Professor Gereffi is the founding director of the Global Value Chains Center at Duke University. He has published over a dozen books and numerous articles on globalization, industrial upgrading, and social and economic development, and he is one of the originators of the global value chains framework.
