Big Data Forum Seminar with Viktor Mayer-Schönberger: Why Big Data is a Big Thing – and Why Society Should Care

The next event in the Big Data Forum will be a seminar with Professor Viktor Mayer-Schönberger from Oxford University on September 18, 2013. Mayer-Schönberger is the OII's Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation. His research focuses on the role of information in a networked economy. .

The Big Data Forum and the CBS Public-Private Platform proudly present a seminar with Viktor Mayer-Schönberger – one of the world’s leading experts on big data and co-author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling book Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think. At the seminar, Viktor will talk about his book (co-authored with Kenneth Cukier from The Economist) and address questions about the processes and effects of widespread ‘datafication’ in a wide range of spheres. The seminar will be of relevance to researchers, policy-makers, practitioners and students interested in questions of technological change, data and policy questions related to the digital age.

Viktor Mayer-Schönberger is Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the Oxford Internet Institute of Oxford University, and a faculty affiliate at Harvard University. He has published nine books, including the very influential book Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age (2011), and over a hundred articles and book chapters on the governance of information. He is a frequent public speaker and sought expert for print and broadcast media worldwide. He and his work have been featured in (among others) New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Economist, Nature, Science, NPR, BBC, The Guardian, Le Monde, El Pais, Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Der Spiegel, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Tribune, and WIRED.

The seminar will be moderated by journalist Anders Høeg Nissen from Harddisken at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation
