On Fintech and the European Banking Authority

Excitement around the possibilities and risks from emerging financial technology is growing. Public expectations of regulators are great. To provide clear guidance on its own thinking, and seek input from all stakeholders, the European Banking Authority issued a discussion paper in late 2017. The results from that feedback are now in. The feedback was enthusiastic, with themes ranging from the need for a European knowledge hub to keep supervisors up to date, the importance of consistently policing the regulatory perimeter, the benefits of   technological neutrality in supervisory approaches, and why consumer awareness and protection remains key. Andrea Enria, the EBA's Chairman will discuss these themes and explain how they have influenced the EBA's thinking on key risks, opportunities and priority work areas in the coming years.
