Responsibility at CBS

For faculty

The CBS PRME office runs a wide range of projects concerning research and education at CBS. We welcome faculty to get involved and influence the agenda of Responsible Management Education.

Initiatives for Faculty

Assistant Professor Programme

This course offers inspiration to help teachers, study leaders and school governors to think about, add or mainstream a social responsibility dimension in their teaching and study programmes, specifically as regards curriculum design, didactics and interactional aspects. Examples are based on faculty experiences, the latest research in the field of responsible management education, as well as interviews with CBS students, teachers and study leaders from different disciplinary backgrounds. We will also draw on your experiences, and you will have a chance to (re)design your own teaching from a PRME perspective.

The course is a one day event taking place at CBS campus. Participants are kindly requested to mail the course coordinator Martiina Srkoc mmms.edu@cbs.dk with requests concerning topics to address, and to bring along a description of a course to which you would like to add a PRME dimension, if you have one.

Curriculum Development

The first phase of the curriculum development project, 2008-2011, focused on embedding responsible management education across the full-time MBA. The second phase, initiated in 2012 and ongoing, focuses on the 19 bachelor programmes.
The team applies a 3-step approach to systematically identify and make explicit Responsible Management content in the core bachelor courses:

  1. Review: The team reviews syllabi from the core courses and conducts focus group interviews with students and faculty to identify existing responsible management content.
  2. Faculty engagement: To ensure understanding and progress in responsible management learning, the team identifies a contact person among a study programme’s faculty who assists with information and the internal coordination. The team also identifies courses with responsible management education and a flagship course. The flagship course is the course characterized as having the highest content of responsible management education. , , The contact person often teaches the flagship course and/or on CBS Responsibility Day
  3. Discussion: The findings are summed up in a report and presented to the study board.

Faculty Development Working Group

As part of the UN PRME champions group, CBS has initiated and is leading a UN PRME working group consisting of 12 international business schools. The working group maps ongoing faculty development activities and identifies needs for further development.
As part of this initiative the CBS, together with Babson and IILM has developed a report on Faculty Development relating to Responsible Management Education.

Responsibility Day

In 2009, the Dean of Education launched CBS Responsibility Day - an annual event for all 1st semester undergraduates. Since then, the number of participants has grown from 300 to 2100, turning the day into an official commencement day welcoming the new students to CBS. The students are met by a wide range of stakeholders including teachers, programme directors and study boards from all study programmes to student organisations and senior management.

Visit the CBS Responsibility Day website or contact the Responsibility Day Coordinators at rd@cbs.dk.

PRME Regional Chapter Nordic

The PRME Nordic Chapter was established in September 2014 and it serves as a focal point of coordination and communication for signatories based in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The PRME Chapter Nordic is an initiative to collect all Nordic PRME signatories in a Nordic-wide network, to help each other implement the PRME initiatives in their local context. The chapter therefore provides a platform, which enables collaboration and communication within the field of sustainability and responsible management among universities in the Nordic Region. The 2015 PRME Chapter Meeting Nordic will be held at Copenhagen Business School from the 8-9 June, during the Sustainability in a Scandinavian Context Conference.

If you represent a Nordic business or management school, and would like to be involved in the PRME Regional Chapter Nordic, do not hesitate to contact the coordinator of PRME Nordic: Nikodemus Solitander, solitander@hanken.fi or contact us on PRMEnordic@cbs.dk.

UNGC/LEAD board education

CBS engages in the development of a “Board Engagement Program”, together with the UN Global Compact LEAD platform and the PRME initiative. The aim of the program is to develop two modules and related materials, which can be used as a springboard to discuss sustainability-related topics with Board of Directors. The modules and materials are designed in a flexible way to customise delivery and contextualise relevant discussions. The programme is currently in its pilot phase.

Academic Development Programme

Together with CBS Executive we are introducing a new academic development programme entitled “Launching and Implementing a Responsible Management Education Programme”. The programme is aimed at schools that are signatories of the UN Principles for Responsible Management (PRME) as well as those schools that are planning to sign up to PRME.

By joining this academic development course, participants will have an opportunity to review the key steps required for the launch and implementation of a Responsible Management Education Programme. You will do so in a group of peers with whom you can share experiences and suggestions for how to overcome challenges.

Find out more about how to sign up for the program at the website or contact programme director, Kim Pedersen, at kp@cbs-executive
