Danish foundations from a historical perspective

When it comes to establishing foundations, Denmark has the unofficial world record. Foundations generally do their best to stay out of the public eye, but a new book co-authored by CBS Professor Anker Brink Lund called “The History of Danish Foundations” takes a closer look.

Businesses owned by foundations are recognised as contributing significantly to manufacturing, export and employment. Danish foundations and similar enterprises are also acknowledged as donating 8-9 billion Danish kroner annually to charitable causes. As a result, the world of Danish foundations currently has, as in the past, a significant impact on Danish society. The book, “The Danish History of Foundations”, released this week and co-authored by Professor Anker Brink Lund from the Department of Business and Politics, examines their influence.
