Driving sustainable innovation through modular business models in products, services, and data.
Professor Juliana Hsuan from CBS’s Department of Operations Management conducts research on how companies can design and structure services, products, and software as modular platforms—covering areas such as servitization strategies, reverse supply chain management, and R&D portfolio management. Her work addresses key challenges such as complexity in service architecture, aligning modules with user sessions, and balancing standardization and customization in global supply chains. She is also the Study Director of CBS MSc Supply Chain Management.
Juliana contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by optimizing product life cycles and supporting the circular economy through strategic modularization and servitization of technology-based solutions. Her recent research includes digital servitization and green innovation—for example, pricing models for modular products targeting environmentally conscious consumers, and circular ship recycling in a global context.
Drawing on her background as a product development engineer and experience at Motorola in the United States before entering academia, she brings a unique practical perspective that enriches both her teaching and the implementation of research in companies. Juliana primarily teaches operations management, supply chain management, and innovation, and supervises master’s and PhD students in strategy and complex transformation projects.
