Primary research areas

The main concern in my research is how organizations discover, make sense of, respond to, and learn from innovations and unexpected events. I pursue these interests within the context of the five themes mentioned below
- Crisis Management

- Organizational Decision Making

- Organizational Learning and Adaptation

- Event Safety Management

Organizational Safety and Decision Making

My research focus on how organizations discover, make sense of, decide about, respond to, and learn from unexpected events, including how organizations prepare for and address emergencies. I pursue my research in qualitative and multidisciplinary studies of crowd safety at large music festivals, Arctic offshore emergencies, organizational adaptation during the Covid-19 crisis, and transgressive behavior in organizations. I am a co-founder of Copenhagen Center for Disaster Research (COPE), established in december 2012, in collaboration between Copenhagen Business School and University of Copenhagen.

Sexual Transgressions in Aid: Humanitarian Perceptions and Responses (STAid)

STAid explores how humanitarian actors perceive and respond to sexual transgressions. Working with two humanitarian organizations, we focus on the plurality of perspectives about what ‘counts’ as transgressive behavior. We focus on organizational concepts of responsibility; accounts of unsafe spaces by international aid workers; and local perceptions of transgressions.

Nordic Centre of Excellence on Resilience and Societal Security (NORDRESS)

The aim of NORDRESS was to carry out multidisciplinary studies to enhance societal security and resilience to disasters. Partners from 15 institutions in all Nordic countries joined forces to increase the resilience of individuals, communities, infrastructure and institutions.
