How should Grundfos balance digitalisation, service and new business models in order to create sustainable growth within the water industry in 2020?

This is the question which Danish and International students have to find the best answer to the CBS Case Competition at CBS this week.

About the possibility for setting the agenda in the competitions which are among the most prestigious in the world, the CEO of Grundfos, Mads Nipper, says:
- "We face pervasive challenges in the water industry, and we have to act now. We try to come up with new sustainable business models which exploit digital opportunities. To get an additional perspective on the topic and have somebody look at it with fresh eyes, we think it could be interesting to hear the students' suggestions for future solutions."

Two different competitions
Two different competitions will also be presented this year: The international competition and the OPEN competition.

In the international competition, 12 teams of 4 students from top universities throughout the world are selected to participate.  Besides getting the opportunity to spend a day at BCG, Wunderman, Deloitte, PFA, Maj Invest or Arla, who all are partners of CBS Case Competition, the winner of the international competition qualifies for the World Championship final called Champions Trophy Case Competition.

In the OPEN competition, approximately 1,000 students from 20 countries have entered the competition in pursuit of the victory, the honour and the cheque for DKK 30,000.

Student volunteers behind the competition
CBS Case Competition is organised by the students themselves. For a whole year, 50 students with different backgrounds have worked voluntarily to develop the competitions and ensure that they also this year are among the leading student competitions in the world.

Press manager for CBS Case Competition Emil Bak Nielsson is excited about this year's case which he believes will both challenge and educate the students:

"Grundfos differs significantly from other companies through the combination of a sound business and the ability to address one of the world's greatest problems - the unsustainable use of water.  The talented students have the opportunity to challenge themselves and Grundfos on an issue of great immediate interest using their approach to and knowledge of problem solving in a cross field between digitalisation and strategy."
