The 12 lectures offered by CBS researchers on the occasion of the Science Festival cover a broad spectrum.  More than 300 researchers in Denmark offer free lectures during the Science Festival between 25 April and 1 May. It is possible to book a lecture now.

Big Data: What can we learn from Facebook, Twitter, and other social media?

Ravi Vatrapu, Professor, talks about the collection and analysis of data from social media such as Facebook and Twitter and how it is used to understand political deliberations, the reputation of certain countries and more. Ravi will also present an analysis of the international outcry that followed the killing of Marius the giraffe in Copenhagen Zoo.


The eye is the lens, but it is the brain that sees
Our most important sense is our eyesight. Jesper Clement, Associate Professor, is going to explain how it works in this lecture. Learn more about the challenges our visual system really give us, which we usually do not notice - except when attending this lecture.


False narratives & coming out: How undocumented youths hide and share their immigration status in the U.S.
Of the 11.7 million Americans, who live illegally in the US,  2.1 million are young people who have grown up in the US. In this lecture, Elizabeth Benedict Christensen,  PhD Student, will look into how young people choose to either hide or disclose their immigration status, and how this affects their lives.


HRM: Human Resource Management
HRM has become a strategically important management discipline in private and public companies, but what are the advantages and challenges? Henrik Holt Larsen, Professor Emeritus, gives a lecture about the concept of HRM, what it covers, why it is important - and to whom.

Why do goods cost what they cost?
Stefan K. Sløk-Madsen, PhD Student, is going to describe the concept of price. What is a price? Where does it come from, and what are they good for? He will do that by means of fun examples and exercises, philosophical and economic theory, and his entrepreneurial background has given him practical experience with pricing.

New trends in Japan
Denmark exports a great deal of goods to Japan. What is the Japanese view on the royal family, Hans Christian Andersen, and the vikings? What are the differences and resemblances between Danes and Japanese? And how do these influence the commerce between the countries? These questions will be answered by Lisbeth Clausen, Associate Professor.

Personal finances and financing
How do you stop yourself from doing something stupid, when it comes to your personal finances? Michael Møller, Professor, talks about the problems people encounter with their personal finances with focus on financing, insurance, and investment.


Tax havens and multinationals
In the past years, tax on multinationals have taken up more space in Danish media. However, this is an extremely complex topic. Michael Tell, Assistant Professor, will make it possible for non-experts to understand and discuss the tax planning of multinationals.

The T-shirt is the message. About identity and T-shirt communication
How come the T-shirt has become a means to express personal and social identity? Karl-Heinz Pogner, Associate Professor, has done research on this.

The T-shirt has become an important tool of communication. In the lecture, you will experience a different kind of fashion show. Pogner will tell stories about the T-shirt's development from being a conventional piece of clothing to becoming an expression of global phenomena.


The psychology of pricing
A price represents the amount of money you pay – the value is what you get. This lecture is based on the fact that both consumers and business act irrationally, when it comes to pricing. Martin Jarmatz, External Lecturer, links relevant theory to practical examples. Participants will be able to impact the direction in which the lecture is going. After the lecture, companies will have a better understanding of their consumers, while the consumers will be better at optimising their buyers.


Tal dansk til din robot - speak English to your robot
Robots are undergoing a rapid development in Denmark. They are applied in institutions and manufacturing, but what does it take to introduce a robot to a Danish home? Peter Juel Henrichsen, Associate Professor, is going to present the technologies that control the functions of the robot, such as "ears" and "voice", and how a verbal dialogue system is able to give instructions to the robot. Juel Henrichsen concludes the lecture with a discussion of the future prospects of the robot.


Storytelling in organizations
Storytelling is an important tool that links the company's own stories to the stories told by the company's employees. Anna Linda Musacchio Adorisio, Assistant Professor, will discuss the life of the organisation seen from a storytelling perspective. She will focus on the perception of storytelling and how it is used by the members of the organisation.
