Presentation

Hans Christian Kongsted is a Professor of Applied Econometrics at the Department of Strategy and Innovation, Copenhagen Business School. His research and teaching interests focus on the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the economics of science, drawing on his methodological background within the field of econometrics. His recent work has explored firms’ R&D and innovation activities and their relationship with the skills and experience of their high-skilled employees; how academic research affects society via the mobility of scientists between academia and firms; and the role of high-skilled immigrants in academic entrepreneurship.

With his ample experience in collecting and analyzing data at a large scale, Kongsted has based his recent research on uniquely detailed and comprehensive data on Danish firms and universities and their employees, constructed from a survey of academics in Denmark, administrative registry information, patent records, and publication statistics.

Kongsted’s research is published in high-ranked journals within economics and management such as Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, and Strategic Management Journal.

In teaching statistics and econometrics both at undergraduate and graduate levels, he aims to provide his students with the statistical and econometric tools necessary for them to engage in quantitative data analysis to understand the behaviors of firms and individuals.

In ongoing work supported by a grant from the Novo Nordisk foundation, Kongsted heads a research group of Danish and international researchers on the “Investments, Incentives, and the Impact of Danish Research (Triple-I-Research)". The project runs during the period of 2017–2020. The aim of the project is to improve our understanding of the way universities, firms, and research funders interact and how research in turn affects society. The project focuses on the pivotal role of individual researchers and their interactions with firms, funders and universities. Understanding the mechanisms at work at the micro level will allow us to assess their role at the level of firms, universities, and society at large, potentially providing us with ways to enhance the impact of research.
