Luisa Lund and Jochyen Lenders - BLC bachelors at CBS - Paper accepted

In June 2012, Luisa Lund and Jochyen Lenders finished their BLC (Business, Language & Culture) bachelor degrees at the Copenhagen Business School, winning the Best Bachelor Project Award with their Project, "Smoke for Thought."

They studied the potential strategies of tobacco companies in Denmark to tackle the challenges of tobacco-legislation and formulated a number of solutions for the precarious situation in the industry. Further, they introduced new theory to this research field, formulating the Government Paradox and specifying The Equilibrium. The two interrelated models describe, first the paradoxal relationship between the government and the tobacco industry, with The Equilibrium specifying the potential balance between smoking-related costs and benefits.

During the summer of 2012 - and after consulting with their CBS academic advisor, Associate Professor Charles T. Tackney - they decided to start working on a revision of their project for submission to the Academy of Management 2013 Conference. The Academy of Management is internationally seen as the best in its field, with this year’s conference being held in Orlando, Florida, U.S.A. After a long process of rewriting based on paper and presentation feedback from the Researchers in Management Education (RIME) cluster members and other faculty in the Department of Intercultural Communication and Management (ICM), they sent the conference paper to the Academy for double-blind, peer-review.

On 2 April 2013, Luisa and Jochyen were informed by the Academy Division that the paper was accepted for a discussion panel presentation in August. It is the first time that two bachelor students from the BLC Program have achieved this. They are also very likely the first students in the history of CBS to have successfully revised an undergraduate Project paper for Academy acceptance.

Luisa Lund and Jochyen Lenders strongly hope that their story can encourage other students to work hard and achieve even more!

CONGRATULATIONS !
