Sustainable Development Goals

On 1 January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit, officially came into force. Over the next 15 years, with these new goals that universally apply to all, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change. However, this responsibility cannot only be relegated to governments and businesses.

“The PRME initiative was launched to nurture responsible leaders of the future. Never has this task been more important. Bold leadership and innovative thinking are needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals" - UN Secretary-General António Guterres

PRME actively supports student organizations with a sustainable and RME related agenda. Examples of this are to be found in our newest UN PRME Report on page 11.
