About the Center

The Center for Corporate Governance was founded 1 January 2005 by a grant from Copenhagen Business School. It is a virtual center connecting researchers from several departments and institutions inside as well as outside Copenhagen Business School.
The center is headed by a managing director, Professor Steen Thomsen and supervised by a supervisory board composed of representatives from participating CBS departments. In addition, the center receives guidance on long-term strategic issues from a business advisory board made up of members from the Danish business community.

Advisory Board
The advisory board consists of leading officers and directors in the largest Danish companies and pension funds.
  • CEO Jeppe Christiansen, LD
  • CEO Henrik Heideby, PFA
  • Director Lars Nørby Johansen, Falck A/S (chairman)
  • CFO Søren Thorup Sørensen, A. P. Møller-Mærsk
  • Director Tine Roed, Dansk Industri
  • CEO, Tom Knutzen, Danisco
  • CEO Lars Rohde, ATP
  • Chairman Kurt Gimsing, The Institute of State Authorized Public Accountants in Denmark (FSR)
  • Director Poul J. Svanholm
  • CEO Peter Engberg Jensen, Nykredit
Research projects connected to the Center will be managed in a decentralized way by individual project managers. The Center, which is active in starting up new research projects, coordinates and monitors the completion of current research projects and disseminates results. This will be accomplished by developing joint databases, arranging research seminars with influential international researchers, workshops, travel stipends and giving administrative assistance on drafting research proposals. A special overhead function is database management for the benefit of the associated researchers – i.e. gaining access to international databases, merging, combining and formatting data sets, coordinating surveys and so on.
Administratively, the Center is truly virtual in the sense that it has no permanent secretariat, but buys into administrative support and research assistance at several CBS departments.
The Center has a close working relationship with the Centre for Law Economics and Financial Institutions, at CBS (LEFIC), with which it shares a number of research interests. LEFIC has sponsored the Danish corporate governance network over the past few years and will continue to be an important research partner, as corporate governance is an outstanding example of how a combined effort in law and economics can advance the state of knowledge in a particular field. In addition, CCG will cooperate on joint projects with several other CBS centers, including the Centre for Corporate Values, The Copenhagen Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility, the Centre for East European Studies (CEES), the Asian Research Centre, and the Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR).
