When building a future free of fossil fuels, wind energy installations are key in Denmark. Denmark has already built several on- and offshore facilities with the share of wind energy representing 25% of the country's electricity demand. The wind energy project at Middelgrunden is unique, because it is based on a sale of shares. Peter Karnøe, professor at CBS, says that cooperative ownerships have been a long tradition in Denmark. He explains that banks, dairies and abattoirs have been successful with the cooperative model as well.

Some companies are introducing clothing that has wireless devices embedded in the material. According to a paper by Copenhagen Business School, wireless devices in clothing is about how to free your hands and attention, so your body alone can be extended with wireless communication. Dr. John Volakis is part of the project and explains that you do not have to hold your telephone at your ear anymore. He explains that the devices can be embedded intro military apparel, hospital gowns and everyday T-shirts.

The Act on Researcher Patents is putting the brakes on the universities’research collaboration with the biotech and pharmaceuticals industry, Medicon Valley Online, 20/10/2011

The Act of Researcher Patents carries a number of negative consequences. The article 'The effects on academia-industry collaboration of extending university property right' from 2007 by Finn Valentin and Rasmus Lund Jensen, both from Research Centre on Biotech Business, CBS, illuminates these consequences. However, the Act still remains in force. Finn Valentin says that records in their database have shown peculiar developments in the Danish biotech industry not seen in Sweden. He explains that the Act was derived from an American act, but that the American situation is different and therefore not applicable to the Danish system. Although the Act has its advantages, it has halved the collaboration between the Danish universities and the pharmaceutical industry when compared to Swedish developments.

At the same time, there has been an increase in demand for smaller, cheaper and faster vehicles loaded with gizmos and gadgets, says the report. IBM Launches University Competition to Combat ..., Investors.com, 10/10/2011

Friday, IBM and Novartis announced the NCD Challenge, which challenges students to design ways to address non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, asthma and diabetes. The participating universities are among the world's leading universities, including CBS.
