CBS appoints top researcher as new professor in entrepreneurship

Mirjam van Praag from the University of Amsterdam has been appointed Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Professor of Entrepreneurship at Copenhagen Business School. The donation from the ‘A. P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal’ at 40 million Danish kroner provides CBS with the opportunity to strengthen its research and education activities within entrepreneurship.

CBS Management looks forward to working with Mirjam van Praag, who comes from a position as Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Department of Economics, University of Amsterdam.

- This is  a great opportunity for CBS. With this significant grant, CBS has been able to attract an extraordinary capacity in the entrepreneurship area. We are very sure that Mirjam van Praag will contribute positively so as to ensure that CBS will become one of the leading European universities within entrepreneurship, comments President Per Holten-Andersen.

With the donation, CBS will be able to intensify its research and education in entrepreneurship. This will not only be of benefit to students and researchers at CBS, but also to Danish companies and Danish society as a whole. Better knowledge about entrepreneurship is a key factor in strengthening Danish industry and Denmark's growth potential. This is exactly the intention of the - in a Danish context – rather unique grant from the A. P. Møller Foundation.

Well-recognised research
Mirjam van Praag is a very productive researcher with an extensive list of scientific publications. She is well-recognised within the field of entrepreneurship. Mirjam van Praag’s research focus is on the effects of heredity and environment in relation to entrepreneurial success. In a variety of research projects, she has also studied the impact of entrepreneurial education. Mirjam Van Praag has also been a key figure in establishing the Amsterdam Center for Entrepreneurship (ACE), a center offering training and coaching to young entrepreneurs.

- I am looking forward to join CBS. Helping to further develop the field of entrepreneurship is interesting and exciting. I have been working in this field for more than 20 years in the economics department of the University of Amsterdam. Moving to a top business school such as CBS with a very attractive research environment will give ample of novel opportunities for creative entrepreneurship and innovation research together with my new colleagues, she says.

Mirjam van Praag takes on the position as Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Professor on January 1 2014 and will be affiliated to the Department of Innovation and Organizational Economics. The donation also covers funding for Ph.D. and postdoctoral positions at CBS.
