How to prepare yourself for language learning at the BLC?

It is a good preparation for the classes in Area Studies to use the rich resources available on the Internet, where you can read, listen, and watch news from your language area. Start out, for example, by the international news or by a topic, which you are particularly interested in. You will notice that thanks to contextual knowledge, you will understand a lot. Just 10-15 minutes a day will make a difference on the long term.
English
The best way in which you may prepare yourself for British & American studies at the BLC programme is to read as much about current affairs in the two countries as possible, in order to familiarise yourself with, what is on the political/economic/societal agenda in Britain and the USA. The internet gives you lots of possibilities to do that.
If your English grammar/correctness level is a bit rusty, this website gives you a wealth of material for self-study.

If you are based in Copenhagen, you can borrow books and DVDs at the French multimedia library
and attend conferences at the French Embassy ( Conférences du Palais Thott ), or at the Institut Français .
German:
It is important in relation to German studies to practice your linguistic abilities and especially improve your reading skills. Also it is important to be updated on the political, economical and social agenda in Germany. This can be achieved by reading German newspapers as well as watching and listening to German television and radio on the internet.
