BSc in Business, Language and Culture (BLC)

The programme draws on four academic fields:
Business Administration and Economics
Global competition, large-scale relocation of the production of goods and services, and an emerging framework of global economic governance – these are some of the main concerns of today’s business leaders. This field introduces basic theories and concepts concerning strategy, organisation, business economics, finance, accounting, statistics, macroeconomics and international economics.
Cultural and Societal Analysis
This field includes sociology, political science and cultural theory. It prepares you to analyse the many different contexts in which companies and organisations operate. This provides a profound knowledge of the impact of political, social and cultural institutions on businesses and organisations. The teaching builds on cultural experiences gained during the semester abroad.
Area and Language Studies
As an integrated part of the courses that analyse the institutional dynamics of the different regions, you will learn to understand and deal with diversity and communicate in your chosen language: English and French, German or Spanish. This in-depth study of two language areas and the semester abroad will likewise stimulate both your cultural and general understanding. The acquisition of communicative skills is thematically built into the programme.
Interdisciplinary Research Methods
This field is an introduction to the scientific and philosophical assumptions behind the programme’s interdisciplinary approach. You will be introduced to a combination of different research methods in the investigation of specific business-related problems.
An Intercultural Experience
As a BLC student you interact with a highly international group of students and faculty from a wide variety of countries and backgrounds. As such, the programme is an intercultural experience in itself.
