ACADEMIC INTERESTS:
“My focus is words... and what we can do with them.” To put it less simply: I investigate various properties and functions of the human lexicon (word stock) in its capacity as:
  • a key element in all known manifestations of the complex socio-cognitive mechanism called human language, and
  • a powerful and versatile tool for interacting with and shaping the world, e.g. when generating innovative product ideas, navigating through clashing and converging legal orders, e.g. in the EU, or crystallizing scientific paradigms and theories.
In recent research, I address words and language in the wider context of multimodal interplay with other carriers of communicational content (images, colours, sensory impressions), and the interface between intended communication and other forms of cognitive activity (perception, situated concept formation, sensory experience, action planning).
