Ida holds a PhD from SOAS, University of London in development policy and institutional reform with the title “Decentralisation and Power Structures. The role of local power structures in decentralised development and institution building in Bolivia”. She also holds a Masers degree in development Studies from SOAS. She has served as a consultant on several development projects and programmes and was education policy and development Advisor for the Municipality of Uncia, Bolivia 2000-2004, and again from June 2010 she is rural, economic and social development Advisor there.
Ida is currently supervising a PhD student at Universidad Carlos III, Madrid, and has served as a lecturer in Communitary Law at the Universidad Andina, Bolivia, on the Masters degree in Constitutional Law.
Research interests: development theory, power structures and their reproduction, development policy and socioeconomic development, the politics of development, Latin American politics with special focus on the Andean region, governance in Latin America, institutional reform, decentralisation and the state, local governance and the state, indigenous people’s rights with special focus on human rights, and customary law. She has a large international network with NGOs and academics, in Latin America, Britain, Germany and Spain.
Current research Project: Power, Representation and Citizenship in the Andes. Indigenous Organisation, political institution and customary law in Bolivia. Funded by the Danish Social Science Research Council.
