Research as a Conversation: how to get the most out of your literature review
Faculty
Thomas Basbøll, resident writing consultant (MPP)
Course Coordinator
Aseem Kinra
Aim of the course
This course will explore why literature reviews matter and how to integrate them in your research practices. It will, in particular, connect literature reviews with theory development, and with importance of approaching your research writing as part of a conversation. We will cover the basic principles and common errors of referencing, and show you how to use the library’s resources to quickly and effectively support your claims about what others are saying. This is not, however, an introduction to the library’s databases or reference management software. The focus is on how to identify the major players and seminal contributions to the conversation that defines your field of knowledge. In a deeper sense, it is about the art of articulating what you know among other knowers.
