SESSION ROLES AND FORMAT OF THE SESSIONS:
Session Chair
The primary role of the session chair is a) to set the scene of the session, b) to stimulate and keep the discussion on track and c) to make sure that the session sticks to the time schedule.
The program leaves approximately 15 minutes for each presentation leaving 10 minutes per paper for discussion. The session chair can choose to either have comments after each presentation or to wait until all the presenters are done.
Presenter
The paper presenters have maximum 15 minutes to present their paper. Emphasis should be on the key points of the paper, be it methodological, theoretical, empirical or application-oriented.
The presenter may consider raising some questions or main issues he / she wants to be discussed in the session.
The presentation should be professional in outline, well performed and presented, addressing the key issues and respecting the time schedule.
Discussant
Each presenter in the session will also be in charge of discussing one of the other papers within the session. It is the discussant’s responsibility to download the paper from the website.
Follow the order of the programme and discuss the paper appearing after your own paper. The person(s) of the last paper in the session will be discussant(s) on the first paper in the session.
Example:
Session 7: Consulting-based Evaluations and Learning:
Session Chair: Rickie Moore, ITB, Room: Ks 54 (Tryg Vestas Auditorium)
Iris Hollaender, Hogeschool Utrecht: Small Business & Consultancy: Exploration of an Experiment with Student Consultants. Discussant: Pamela Davidson, Kurt Motamedi & Tony Raia
Michelle M. Griffin, Benedictine University: Economies of Change. Discussant: Iris Hollaender
Rochelle T. Mucha, Business As Performance Art™: Strategic and Systemic Leadership Coaching: Prerequisite to Building a Collaborative Client-Consultant Relationship. Discussant: Michelle M. Griffin
Pamela Davidson, UCLA, Kurt Motamedi, Pepperdine University & Tony Raia, UCLA: The Role of Evaluation in Management Consulting. Discussant: Rochelle T. Mucha
The role of the discussants is primarily to comment on the paper and to raise a number of issues to be further discussed among the presenters, the audience or the discussants. The discussant should be aware that some papers are research based and some are experience based. The comments should be in accordance with the category. This means that an experience based paper for instance should not be commented from a very research based perspective either theoretically or methodologically.
The discussant is expected to use maximum 5 minutes for his / her comments. These could focus on: What is the main strength of the paper, and how can the paper better capitalise on this strength? What is the main weakness of the paper? What other suggestions or reflections should be emphasized after having read the paper?
AV-equipment
If the presenter and / or discussant wish to present slides, there will be PC, PC projector and overhead projector available in all rooms.
