About Copenhagen

A one thousand-year history written by ambitious kings, inspiring artists and celebrated designers awaits you in the medieval streets, 17th century canals and modernist architecture of Copenhagen.
Water forms the distinguishing feature of Copenhagen and meanders into and around the capital. The old canals were founded by King Christian V in the 17th Century along with several castles, churches and many other historic buildings worth seeing.
Copenhagen also offers several exquisite examples of modern architecture. Do not miss the works of Arne Jacobsen, Henning Larsen and Otto von Spreckelsen – not to mention the Royal Danish Library called “The Black Diamond”.
Wherever you turn in Copenhagen, you will feel the influence of the monarchy, which incidentally, is the oldest in the world. The crown jewels are on public display, and you can visit the residence of the Royal Family, Amalienborg, which is guarded by the Royal Guard in their spectacular uniforms.
