Academic Profile & Strategy

Cooperation between research, trade and industry
It is decisive for the result of the research process that researchers from CVL enter into a close working relationship with the corporations. The research method is based on the businesses' view of the problem and experience, and must ensure that the compiled analysis results continuously are the object of critical debate between the participants of the project.
CVL's cooperation with the trade and industry can be organised in different ways
Partnership
Partner businesses are included in the research through their general fields and economical cooperation with the centre. The cooperative agreement can, for instance, consist of the partners' contribution to a project-field, or a research-professorship/lectureship in a number of years with special references to build up new competence within a limited work area. The cooperation can have the form of knowledge-sharing, (samfinansering), joint projects in regions, sectors, consortiums etc. Typically, the goal of this research is to gain a new basic knowledge about a wider theme, for example a further development of new standard based management forms in the Knowledge Society.
Project ownership
When one or more businesses own and finance (entirely or partly) a concrete research-project, it is a project-ownership (PhD project). The project owner defines the principles for the problems which must be solved, or the need of knowledge which is relevant. In addition to this, the owner has an influence on how the project should be defined, as well as on the current project management and the publishing of the research results. The researchers, on the other hand , choose the research methods and the theoretical perspective which must be planned. During the project the project-owner provides the specific experience knowledge while the researcher creates the generic theory knowledge.
Accompany
Companion businesses participate in the research process closely. By doing so, they continuously receive information about the project and attend in debates at special invited arrangements during the project period. The companion businesses have no official project responsibility. The company is organised as knowledge sharing and experience groups, where specific subjects are discussed in relation to the project and the interests of the companion businesses. Companion businesses pay a minor contribution to carry the project's communication and meeting activities.
